STATEHOUSE — State Rep. Andrew Ireland joined Gov. Mike Braun for the April 30 ceremonial signing of Senate Enrolled Act 256, strengthening Indiana’s protections against foreign adversaries.

Ireland co-sponsored the legislation and advanced an amendment making prohibited sister-city and cooperative agreements void and unenforceable. The provision ensures local governments cannot preserve those relationships through existing agreements.

Ireland said Indiana’s farmland, universities, state contracts, and taxpayer dollars are “not open for business to foreign adversaries or terrorist affiliates.”

The law also expands restrictions on land acquisitions by foreign adversaries and bars affiliates of foreign terrorist organizations from accessing state funding, contracts, employment, and tax benefits.

For Ireland, the legislation advances a clear priority: protecting Indiana’s institutions and resources from hostile foreign influence.
